Ida

The energy channel (nāḍī) that runs to the left of suṣumṇā, associated with the moon, cooling, and receptive/feminine energy.

Characteristics:

• Terminates at the left nostril
• Active during left nostril breathing
• Related to the right cerebral hemisphere
• Qualities: calm, introspection, creativity
• Element: water
• Color: white/silver

When iḍā dominates, the mind tends toward contemplation and rest. Balance between iḍā and piṅgalā is essential before prāṇa can enter suṣumṇā.
