सिद्धि
Siddhi
“Perfection”, “accomplishment”, “power”. Supranormal capacities that emerge as byproducts of advancement in yoga.
The eight classical siddhis (aṣṭa siddhi):
- Aṇimā: Becoming as tiny as an atom
- Mahimā: Becoming gigantic
- Laghimā: Becoming as light as a feather
- Garimā: Becoming as heavy as a mountain
- Prāpti: Reaching any place or thing
- Prākāmya: Fulfilling any desire
- Īśitva: Lordship, control over nature
- Vaśitva: Control over other beings
The texts warn: siddhis are obstacles (antarāya) if the yogi becomes attached to them. They are signs of progress but not the goal. The true siddha is one who attains mokṣa (liberation).
