सिद्धि

Siddhi

“Perfection”, “accomplishment”, “power”. Supranormal capacities that emerge as byproducts of advancement in yoga.

The eight classical siddhis (aṣṭa siddhi):

  1. Aṇimā: Becoming as tiny as an atom
  2. Mahimā: Becoming gigantic
  3. Laghimā: Becoming as light as a feather
  4. Garimā: Becoming as heavy as a mountain
  5. Prāpti: Reaching any place or thing
  6. Prākāmya: Fulfilling any desire
  7. Īśitva: Lordship, control over nature
  8. Vaśitva: Control over other beings

The texts warn: siddhis are obstacles (antarāya) if the yogi becomes attached to them. They are signs of progress but not the goal. The true siddha is one who attains mokṣa (liberation).
