For certainly I do not see what might dispel my grief that dries up the senses, obtaining on earth a prosperous kingdom without rivals, and even sovereignty over the gods

The despair is absolute: na prapaśyāmi (I do not see). No earthly or celestial gain could apanudya (dispel, drive away) this śoka (grief). The grief is ucchoṣaṇam (that which dries up, exhausts) of the indriyāṇi (senses) — impossibility of sensory enjoyment while it persists.

The scale is deliberately absurd: bhūmau (on earth) asapatnam (without rivals) ṛddham (prosperous, abundant) rājyam (kingdom) is not enough. Not even surāṇām api cādhipatyam (sovereignty over the gods, Indra-loka). Arjuna denies the traditional puruṣārtha: artha, kāma, even svarga.

The only possible answer is transcendent: something beyond gain and loss.
