Sāṅkhya Yoga · Verse 71
"आपूर्यमाणमचलप्रतिष्ठं समुद्रमापः प्रविशन्ति यद्वत् | तद्वत्कामा यं प्रविशन्ति सर्वे स शान्तिमाप्नोति न कामकामी"
"āpūryamāṇam acala-pratiṣṭhaṃ samudram āpaḥ praviśanti yadvat | tadvat kāmā yaṃ praviśanti sarve sa śāntim āpnoti na kāma-kāmī"
As waters enter into the ocean, filling it, firmly established, so into him enter all desires; he attains peace, not the one who desires desires
The ocean analogy: āpūryamāṇam (being filled) yet acala-pratiṣṭham (of unmoved base). Rivers flow into it; its level remains constant.
Thus the sthita-prajña receives kāmāḥ (desires) without being disturbed. Desires arise and dissolve in his fullness. Sa śāntim āpnoti (he attains peace).
Final negation: na kāma-kāmī (not the one who desires desires). The one who seeks to satisfy desires remains unsatisfied; the full one needs no additional satisfaction.
