राग

Raga

Attachment, attraction, desire. The third of the five kleshas, arising as a consequence of past pleasurable experiences.

Raga is not simply enjoying — it is the compulsion to repeat pleasure, the inability to let go of the pleasant. It creates dependence: happiness becomes contingent on obtaining certain objects or experiences.

Yoga doesn’t condemn pleasure but slavery to pleasure. A yogi can fully enjoy precisely because they don’t depend on that enjoyment. Raga weakens with the practice of vairagya (dispassion) and the cultivation of santosha (contentment).
