द्वेष
Dvesha
Aversion, rejection, hatred. The fourth klesha, arising as a consequence of past painful experiences.
Dvesha is the reverse of raga: the compulsion to avoid the unpleasant. Both are automatic reactions based on memory, not the present situation. What we reject binds us as much as what we desire.
Yogic practice develops equanimity (samatvam) — the capacity to remain stable before the pleasant and unpleasant. This is not indifference but freedom: being able to respond consciously instead of reacting mechanically.
