Doṣa
ayurvedaFault, impurity, humour. The three doṣas — vāta (air), pitta (fire), and kapha (water/earth) — are the fundamental biological principles of Āyurveda that govern physiological and psychological function. Imbalance (vikṛti) of doṣas produces disease; equilibrium (prakṛti) sustains health. In classical yoga, doṣa also refers to the kleśas — the afflictions of the mind that obstruct the path to liberation. The yoga practices of āsana, prāṇāyāma, and śatkarma directly work to harmonise the doṣas. See kapha, [[vata]], pitta, klesha.
