Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 50

उत्तानमण्डूकाख्यातं देहदोषविनाशनम् | तत्प्रकारं प्रवक्ष्यामि शृणु त्वं कमलानने ||

uttānamaṇḍūkākhyātaṃ dehadoṣavināśanam | tatprakāraṃ pravakṣyāmi śṛṇu tvaṃ kamalānane ||

Uttānamaṇḍūkāsana — the extended frog. The frog is a symbol of transformation, of leaping, of adaptability. This variation adds extension to the basic frog posture.

Like other postures, it is a “destroyer of impurities.” The combination of frog posture with extension works on multiple levels of the body.

The structure of pairs — Maṇḍūka/Uttānamaṇḍūka — is consistent in Gheraṇḍa’s system. Each base posture has its intensive variation.
