Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 51

दक्षिणं पादमूले तु वामजङ्घां नियोजयेत् | दक्षिणं पादमग्रं तु वामजङ्घोपरि स्थितम् ||

dakṣiṇaṃ pādāmūle tu vāmajaṅghāṃ niyojayet | dakṣiṇaṃ pādamagraṃ tu vāmajaṅghopari sthitam ||

The description of Uttānamaṇḍūkāsana suffers from the same textual transmission problems as other postures in this section. The complete description typically implies extending the arms and torso from the frog position.

The base frog posture (Maṇḍūkāsana) is executed kneeling with knees separated and feet joined behind, sitting on the heels.

The extended version tilts the torso forward, extending the arms. It is a deep fold that opens the hips and stretches the back.
