Vāma

Left. Vāma designates the left side and, by extension, the lunar current (iḍā nāḍī). The vāma mārga (left-hand path) is the Tantric approach that transmutes sensory experience into vehicles of liberation. In the Śiva Saṃhitā, iḍā is called vāma nāḍī. The Vijñāna Bhairava employs practices where attention rests on the left side as a portal to expansive consciousness. Vāma as the feminine aspect of divinity reveals the receptive. See dakshina.
