Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 60
दक्षिणं पादमूले तु वामजङ्घां नियोजयेत् | दक्षिणं पादमग्रं तु वामजङ्घोपरि स्थितम् ||
dakṣiṇaṃ pādāmūle tu vāmajaṅghāṃ niyojayet | dakṣiṇaṃ pādamagraṃ tu vāmajaṅghopari sthitam ||
The description of Uṣṭrāsana in the transmitted text is different from the modern known practice. The classic camel is executed kneeling, arching backward to grasp the heels.
The posture intensely opens the chest and heart. It stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, increasing energy and alertness.
For practitioners with back or neck problems, it must be executed with care and possibly with support. The extension should occur from the chest, not by forcing the neck.
