Mūla

Root, base, foundation. A term designating the origin or substratum of something. In subtle anatomy, mūlādhāra is the muladhara-chakra as the root of all energy centers. Mūla bandha (contraction of the perineum) seals energy at its base. In the Upaniṣads, mūla alludes to Brahman as the ultimate root of all manifestation. That which lacks a root lacks stability.
