Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 49
दक्षिणं पादमूले तु वामजङ्घां नियोजयेत् | दक्षिणं पादमग्रं तु वामजङ्घोपरि स्थितम् ||
dakṣiṇaṃ pādāmūle tu vāmajaṅghāṃ niyojayet | dakṣiṇaṃ pādamagraṃ tu vāmajaṅghopari sthitam ||
This description appears displaced in the textual transmission. Uttānakūrmakāsana typically implies an expansion of the basic Kūrmāsana.
In some traditions, it refers to a variation where the body leans forward from the tortoise position, extending the arms and torso.
The pair of extended/contracted tortoise postures offers options according to the practitioner’s energetic state: do we need to contain or expand?
