Manifest, near, dwelling in the cavity, it is called the Great Support. Here itself it is offered. Know it as what trembles and breathes, what blinks — the real and the unreal, the adorable, the supreme beyond knowledge, the most excellent of beings.

Second section of the second muṇḍaka: the teaching about Brahman as object of contemplation.

Āviḥ — manifest, visible. Not remote or hidden, but present.

Saṃnihitam — near, immediate. Closer than body, than mind.

Guhācaram — dwelling in the cavity. The heart, the innermost, the secret chamber.

Mahat padam — the Great Support. That upon which everything rests.

Ejat prāṇan — what trembles and breathes. Pulsating vitality, energy in motion.

Nimiṣac ca — and blinks. What appears and disappears, the transient.

Sat asat — real and unreal. Both aspects of manifestation.

Vareṇyaṃ paraṃ — adorable, supreme. Beyond ordinary knowledge (vijñānāt).

Yoga is the contemplation of this immediate, this present that is everything.
