प्राणापानगती रुद्ध्वा प्राणायामपरायणाः | अपरे नियताहाराः प्राणान्प्राणेषु जुह्वति
prāṇāpāna-gatī ruddhvā prāṇāyāma-parāyaṇāḥ | apare niyatāhārāḥ prāṇān prāṇeṣu juhvati
Others, having restrained the flow of inhalation and exhalation, dedicated to prāṇāyāma, and others of regulated food, offer the prāṇa into the prāṇa.
Sacrifice of vital energy. Prāṇa-apāna-gatī ruddhvā — restraining the flows of prāṇa (inhalation) and apāna (exhalation) — describes kevala-kumbhaka or retention.
Prāṇāyāma-parāyaṇāḥ — dedicated to control of prāṇa — practice breathing techniques. Niyatāhārāḥ — of regulated food — also control intake. Prāṇān prāṇeṣu juhvati — offer prāṇa into prāṇa — is sacrifice of the lower into the higher, energetic refinement.
