Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 62
दक्षिणं पादमूले तु वामजङ्घां नियोजयेत् | दक्षिणं पादमग्रं तु वामजङ्घोपरि स्थितम् ||
dakṣiṇaṃ pādāmūle tu vāmajaṅghāṃ niyojayet | dakṣiṇaṃ pādamagraṃ tu vāmajaṅghopari sthitam ||
The description of Bhujaṅgāsana in this transmission is incomplete. The classic posture is executed face down, supporting the hands under the shoulders, and lifting the chest and head by arching the back.
The movement should initiate from the lower back, not forcing with the arms. The elbows may remain bent or extended depending on capacity.
The serpent glides smoothly. So must the lifting be: without jerks, with the breath guiding the movement. It is one of the most comforting postures for the back.
