Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 18
वामोरुमूले दक्षिणं च घ्नत्पदं तु नियोजयेत् | दक्षिणोरुमूले वामं घ्नन्तं स्थापयेद्यथा ||
vāmor mūle dakṣiṇaṃ ca ghnatpadaṃ tu niyojayet | dakṣiṇor mūle vāmaṃ ghnantaṃ sthāpayedyathā ||
The execution of Siṃhāsana: the feet are placed at the join of thigh and hip, touching the groin folds. It is a less crossed position than the lotus but deeper than Svastikāsana.
The verb ghnat (striking, touching) is instructive. It is not about forcing the position but allowing the feet to find their natural place in the thigh folds.
This configuration opens the hips differently from other seated postures. It is especially beneficial for massaging the inguinal area, where much emotional tension accumulates.
