Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 17
Siṃhāsana — the lion posture. The lion is the king of the jungle, symbol of majesty, courage, and mastery. This posture must be executed with that same regal dignity.
Like Vajrāsana, it promises siddhi and liberation in this life. Postures involving names of the powerful — thunderbolt, lion — share this quality of granting rapid results.
The textual similarity with the Vajrāsana verse suggests both were considered sister postures, different paths to the same destination. The yogi chooses according to their nature: the one who strikes like the thunderbolt, or the one who reigns like the lion?
