Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 39
दक्षिणं पादमूले तु वामजङ्घां नियोजयेत् | दक्षिणं पादमग्रं तु वामजङ्घोपरि स्थितम् ||
dakṣiṇaṃ pādāmūle tu vāmajaṅghāṃ niyojayet | dakṣiṇaṃ pādamagraṃ tu vāmajaṅghopari sthitam ||
The description of Saṃkaṭāsana shares elements with other crossed-seated postures. The specificity of this posture may have been lost in textual transmission, or it may refer to a particular variation.
In some traditions, Saṃkaṭāsana involves a challenging balance position or an intense twist. The name suggests that difficulty is its defining characteristic.
What is important is the principle: the postures that challenge us are the ones that teach us most. We do not avoid difficulty; we face it with intelligence and perseverance.
