Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 12
गुल्फयोर्द्वयोः समं कृत्वा पादपार्ष्णी तथोपरि | वामोरुपरि दक्षिणं च दक्षिणोरुपरि वामतः ||
gulphayor dvayoḥ samam kṛtvā pādapārṣṇī tathopari | vāmor upari dakṣiṇaṃ ca dakṣiṇor upari vāmataḥ ||
The technical instruction reveals an asymmetrical configuration: the feet are placed on opposite thighs in an alternating manner. It is a variation of the lotus that creates different pressure on the hips.
The heels upward (pāda-pārṣṇī upari) indicate that the feet are flexed, not extended. This activates the bladder and kidney meridians on the back of the legs.
The asymmetry is significant: Bhadrāsana balances the two hemispheres of the body differently from the symmetrical lotus. It is especially useful for those with pronounced lateral imbalances.
