Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 13
मुक्तासनं ततः प्रोक्तं मुक्तासनविदो जनाः | एकं पादं तथैकस्मिन् वृषणेऽधः स्थितं भवेत् ||
muktāsanaṃ tataḥ proktaṃ muktāsanavido janāḥ | ekaṃ pādaṃ tathaikasmin vṛṣaṇe'dhaḥ sthitaṃ bhavet ||
Muktāsana — the liberated posture. Mukti means freedom, liberation, release. The liberation is in the very name.
The instruction is clear: one heel presses the perineum (below the testicles), while the other foot rests on the opposite thigh. It is less symmetrical than the lotus but equally stable for meditation.
The “those versed in it” suggests this was a posture known in specific circles of the tradition. Gheraṇḍa includes it as a valid alternative for those who find Siddhāsana too intense or Padmāsana inaccessible.
