Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 7
वामोरुपरि दक्षिणं पादं संस्थाप्य बुद्धिमान् | हस्ताभ्यां धारयित्वा तु पादाङ्गुष्ठौ दृढं ततः ||
vāmoru pari dakṣiṇaṃ pādaṃ saṃsthāpya buddhimān | hastābhyāṃ dhārayitvā tu pādāṅguṣṭhau dṛḍhaṃ tataḥ ||
The initial position of Mahāmudrā: seated with one leg crossed over the opposite thigh (half-lotus position), grasping the foot with both hands.
This configuration seals the energetic circuit of the leg. The practitioner must be “intelligent” (buddhimān) — not just follow instructions mechanically but understand the purpose.
The firm grasp of the big toes creates a direct connection between hands and feet, upper and lower energy circuits. It is the beginning of the sealing.
