Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 25

दक्षिणं बाहुमूर्ध्नि तु वामं च कटिदेशतः | हस्तौ चैव तथोरस्य दृढं कृत्वा शनैः शनैः ||

dakṣiṇaṃ bāhum ūrdhni tu vāmaṃ ca kaṭideśataḥ | hastau caiva tathorasye dṛḍhaṃ kṛtvā śanaiḥ śanaiḥ ||

A variation of Mṛtāsana with a specific arm position. This asymmetry has therapeutic purpose: the right arm over the head facilitates breathing on the left side of the body, while the left at the hip anchors.

The variation alternates sides for balance. These asymmetric positions are common in the tantric tradition where specific energy circuits are sought to be activated.

“Very gently” (śanaiḥ śanaiḥ) is the crucial instruction. There is no hurry in Mṛtāsana; each moment is a gradual descent toward perfect stillness. It is the posture where the yogi learns to be without doing.
