Just as the fire [consumes] fuel and the lamp [consumes] wick and oil, so the incarnated being does not leave the body filled with the lunar phases.

Indhanāni yathā vahniḥ — just as fire [consumes] fuel.As long as there is wood, the fire continues to burn.Taila-varti ca dīpakaḥ — and the lamp [consumes] wick and oil.As long as there is oil, the lamp remains lit.

Dehī dehaṃ na muñcati — the incarnated being (dehī) does not leave the body (deham).In the same way, as long as the body is filled with lunar nectar (soma-kalā-pūrṇam), the ātman does not leave it.

This metaphor illustrates the principle of yogic longevity: nectar is the “fuel” that sustains life.As long as the yogī preserves and accumulates this amṛta through Khecarī and related practices, death cannot take away the body.
