Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 33
सोम-सूर्याग्नि-सम्बन्धो जायते चामृताय वै | मृतावस्था समुत्पन्ना ततो वायुं विरेचयेत्
soma-sūryāgni-sambandho jāyate cāmṛtāya vai | mṛtāvasthā samutpannā tato vāyuṃ virecayet
The union of soma (moon), sun and fire arises, certainly towards immortality;when the death-like state arises, then the air is exhaled.
Soma-sūryāgni-sambandhaḥ — the union of moon, sun and fire.Soma represents Iḍā and the refreshing lunar energy.Sūrya is Piṅgalā, the hot solar energy.Agni (fire) is Suṣumnā or Kuṇḍalinī herself.The triple union occurs when these forces converge.
Amṛtāya — towards immortality.This union produces amṛta — the nectar of immortality that “drips” from Sahasrāra when Kuṇḍalinī ascends.
Mṛtāvasthā — death-like state — when breathing practically ceases and body consciousness is suspended.This is the peak moment of the practice.Tato vāyuṃ virecayet — then the air is exhaled — indicates when to end the retention: when this deep state is reached.
