Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 32

समहस्त-युगो भूमौ स्फिचौ सन्ताडयेच्छनैः | पुटद्वयमतिक्रम्य वायुः स्फुरति मध्यगः

sama-hasta-yugo bhūmau sphicau santāḍayec chanaiḥ | puṭa-dvayam atikramya vāyuḥ sphurati madhyagaḥ

With both hands resting evenly on the floor, gently tap your buttocks against the floor;The air, passing through the two channels, vibrates in the central channel.

This verse describes the distinctive technique of Mahāvedha.Sama-hasta-yugaḥ — with both hands equal — resting on the ground, they allow the body to be raised.Sphicau santāḍayet — hitting the buttocks — consists of slightly lifting the body and letting it fall gently against the ground.

Śanaiḥ — gently — is crucial: they are not violent impacts but controlled blows.This movement shakes the base of the spine where Kuṇḍalinī sleeps.

Puṭa-dvayam atikramya — crossing the two channels (Iḍā and Piṅgalā).Vāyuḥ sphurati madhyagaḥ — the air vibrates in the central channel (Suṣumnā).The repeated impact, combined with retention and bandhas, forces the prāṇa into Suṣumnā.
