Nāḍīs
conceptoPlural of nāḍī. Subtle channels through which prana circulates in the energy body. Classical texts mention 72,000 nāḍīs, though only 14 are principal.
The three most important: iḍā (lunar, left), piṅgalā (solar, right), and suṣumṇā (central, fire). When prana flows through suṣumṇā, the mind becomes still and the pathway to kundalinī opens. Nāḍī śodhana (channel purification) is the essential preparatory practice. See nadi.
