Partha

Son of Pṛthā, epithet of Arjuna. Pṛthā is another name for Kuntī, Arjuna’s mother, making Pārtha synonymous with Kauñteya — both emphasizing matrilineal descent.

Kṛṣṇa addresses Arjuna as Pārtha with particular frequency in the Gītā’s most intimate and philosophical passages. The name carries connotations of nobility, royal lineage, and the heroic ethos of the kṣatriya warrior.

The epithet connects Arjuna to his adoptive father Pāṇḍu and to the broader Pāṇḍava dynasty, grounding his identity in the political and moral obligations of kingship. It is at once an endearment and a call to remember who he is.
