Chapter 15 · Verse 1
अष्टावक्र उवाच
aṣṭāvakra uvāca
Chapter 15 turns to the dissolution of the mind, and verse 1 begins by locating suffering in a mistaken identification. The body is a temporary aggregation of the five elements; it neither truly comes into being nor perishes. The Ātman, however, is pure knowledge, stainless and immutable. If one’s real nature is unborn and unchanging awareness, the question “Where is suffering?” exposes suffering as belonging only to the falsely assumed identity, not to the Self.
