Chapter 18 · Verse 6

व्यामोहमात्रविरतौ स्वरूपादानमात्रतः

vyāmohamātraviratau svarūpādānamātrataḥ | vītaśokā virājante nirāvaraṇadṛṣṭayaḥ

In chapter 18, this verse reinforces the central teaching of non-dual awareness. व्यामोहमात्रविरतौ स्वरूपादानमात्रतः । वीतशोका विराजन्ते निरावरणदृष्टयः

This verse from chapter 18 pinpoints the mechanism of liberation: it requires no cumulative effort but simply the cessation of delusion (vyāmoha) and the recognition of one’s own nature (svarūpa). Vyāmoha — the confusion that identifies the ātman with the non-ātman — dissolves on its own when seen clearly. Svarūpādānamātrataḥ indicates that it is enough to ‘take’ or recognize what is already one’s own. The consequence is immediate: those who possess unobstructed vision (nirāvaraṇa-dṛṣṭi) shine forth (virājante) free from all affliction (vīta-śoka). There is no gradual process or necessary purification: correct vision is liberation itself.
