Prakaraṇa 6 · Verse 12

मुक्तो न जातु क्लेशांश् चलयत्य् आत्मशुद्धये । निष्क्रियात्मा निराधारो निर्विकारः परः शिवः ॥

mukto na jātu kleśāṃś calayaty ātmaśuddhaye | niṣkriyātmā nirādhāro nirvikāraḥ paraḥ śivaḥ ||

The liberated one never disturbs the afflictions to purify himself. He is essentially inactive, without support, immutable, the supreme Śiva.

Śuddhi—purification—is herein repudiated as a method. The ātman cannot be purified, for it was never impure; impurity is but a projection of ignorance. The notion of niṣkriyātmā—the essentially inactive Self—denotes not passivity, but the transcendence of the activity-inactivity polarity.
