Brahmana

A sacred text, exposition, or liturgical formula within the Vedic corpus. The Brāhmaṇas are prose texts appended to each Veda, providing ritual instructions and theological explanations.

In the Bhagavad-gītā, the term carries its older sense of a revealed sacred utterance rather than the later sociological meaning of priestly caste. It denotes that which belongs to Brahman, the Absolute.

These texts occupy a pivotal place in Vedic literature—bridging the poetic mantras of the Saṃhitās and the philosophical speculations of the Āraṇyakas and Upaniṣads.
