कूर्म

Kūrma

concepto

“Turtle.” In yoga, kūrma designates both Viṣṇu’s tortoise incarnation (supporting Mount Mandara during the churning of the ocean) and the kūrma nāḍī — the subtle current connecting the heart to the eyes.

In haṭha yoga, kūrma nāḍī regulates blinking and ocular stillness. When the yogi stops eye movement through concentration, kūrma nāḍī quiets and the mind stabilizes. Yonimudra and śāmbhavī mudra work with this channel.
