तण्हाक्खय

Taṇhakkhaya

pali

The destruction or cessation of thirst (trishna). The [[Pali]] term for the complete extinguishing of craving — the very definition of liberation (nirvana) in the [[Theravada]] tradition.

Kkhaya means “destruction” or “wearing away,” implying not suppression but the natural end of a process. When the causes of dukkha are fully understood, thirst simply ceases to arise.

This is not a distant goal but the immediate result of clear seeing. The [[Buddha]] described his teaching as directed entirely toward this single end: the cessation of suffering through the cessation of craving.
