Chapter 16 · Verse 7
हेयोपादेयता तावत्संसारविटपाङ्कुरः
heyopādeyatā tāvatsaṃsāraviṭapāṅkuraḥ | spṛhā jīvati yāvad vai nirvicāradaśāspad
The notions of accepting and rejecting (heyopādeyatā) are the sprout (aṅkura) of the tree of saṃsāra. As long as desire (spṛhā) persists, one remains in the abode of the unreflecting. The metaphor is botanical: saṃsāra grows from the seed of like and dislike.
