Chapter 20 · Verse 1

अष्टावक्र उवाच

aṣṭāvakra uvāca

Chapter 20 opens with Aṣṭāvakra’s final, essential pointing. Wherever there is desire, there is world. Wherever there is no desire, there is no world. This is the teaching. Be aware of this and be free. The formulation is stark: saṃsāra is not a place but a function of kāma. The sage does not renounce the world; the world disappears when its fuel is withdrawn.
