Chapter 5 · Verse 1
अष्टावक्र उवाच
aṣṭāvakra uvāca
Aṣṭāvakra resumes in chapter 5 with a direct declaration: the seeker is pure Knowledge (jñāna), unconditioned and limitless as space. The rhetorical questions — what could one know, renounce, accept, or reject? — do not open a path of practice but close it. For one who already is awareness itself, no attainment is possible or necessary. This verse marks the transition from the language of effort to the recognition of effortless being.
