पुरोधसां च मुख्यं मां विद्धि पार्थ बृहस्पतिम् | सेनानीनामहं स्कन्दः सरसामस्मि सागरः
purodhasāṃ ca mukhyaṃ māṃ viddhi pārtha bṛhaspatim | senānīnām ahaṃ skandaḥ sarasām asmi sāgaraḥ
Of the chief priests, oh Pṛthā, know that I am Bṛhaspati; of the commanders I am Skanda, and of bodies of water I am the ocean.
Purodhasām — of the officiating priests — bṛhaspatiḥ — the preceptor of the gods, planet Jupiter. Senānīnām — of the generals — skandaḥ — Kārttikeya, god of war.
Sarasām — of lakes, rivers, bodies of water — sāgaraḥ — the ocean, source of them all. The largest form contains the essence of the category.
These examples help the devotee remember the Lord when seeing greatness in the world.
