Prathamopadeśaḥ (Ṣaṭkarma) · Verse 16
दन्तमूलं भवेत्तद्वद्दन्तजिह्वोपलालनात् | दन्तानां मूलसंशुद्धिर्नित्यं काले च काले ||
dantamūlaṃ bhavettadvaddantajihvopalālanāt | dantānāṃ mūlasaṃśuddhirnityaṃ kāle ca kāle ||
The practice of dantamūla dhauti is simple but effective: massage of the gums (danta-mūla = tooth roots) and tongue cleaning. Today we know that oral health is connected to cardiovascular and systemic health.
“Time after time” (kāle ca kāle) indicates regularity. It is not an occasional practice but part of the yogi’s daily hygiene.
The implicit connection is that the mouth is the entrance to the digestive system; keeping it clean affects the entire downstream chain.
