Prathamopadeśaḥ (Ṣaṭkarma) · Verse 29
जलनेतिस्तु कर्तव्या क्षौमपट्टवदग्रतः | नासापुटद्वयं प्रोक्ष्य श्लेष्मदोषविनाशनम् ||
jalanetistu kartavyā kṣaumapaṭṭavadagrataḥ | nāsāpuṭadvayaṃ prokṣya śleṣmadoṣavināśanam ||
Classic jala neti used a vessel with a spout (kṣauma-paṭṭa — linen cloth may refer to the material of the spout or to a cloth used in the technique). Today we use ceramic or plastic neti pots.
Warm salt water is poured through one nostril and exits through the other, carrying away mucus, allergens, and pollution. The immediate result is nasal clarity and reduction of śleṣma (mucus/kapha).
This practice is one of the most accessible of the ṣaṭkarmas and can be practiced daily.
