Prathamopadeśaḥ (Ṣaṭkarma) · Verse 33

वर्धते जठराग्निस्तु नित्यं नाभिक्रियां चरन् | देहे काये क्षुधावृद्धिर्देहलाघवमेव च ||

vardhate jaṭharāgnistu nityaṃ nābhikriyāṃ caran | dehe kāye kṣudhāvṛddhirdehalāghavameva ca ||

The benefits of nauli: enhanced jaṭharāgni (digestive fire), improved appetite (kṣudhā-vṛddhi), and bodily lightness (deha-lāghava). This last quality is crucial — the light body is the body prepared for meditation.

“Lightness” is not merely physical weight loss but a quality of subtlety. The body loses its heaviness, its torpor, its tendency toward distraction.

Daily practice (nityam) is key. Nauli is not a technique for special occasions but part of the yogi’s bodily maintenance.
