Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 15
गुल्फौ च वृषणस्याधः सीवन्याः पार्श्वयोः क्रमात् | अङ्गुष्ठौ च भवेतां तु कराभ्यां धारयेद्दृढम् ||
gulphau ca vṛṣaṇasyādhaḥ sīvanyāḥ pārśvayoḥ kramāt | aṅguṣṭhau ca bhavetāṃ tu karābhyāṃ dhārayed dṛḍham ||
The technical instruction of Vajrāsana. The heels are placed at the sides of the perineum, not one over the other as in Siddhāsana, but in parallel. This creates a wider and more stable base.
The sīvanī is the pubic joint line, the midpoint of the perineum. Placing the heels at its sides distributes pressure differently, activating both sides of the central channel.
Holding the big toes with the hands completes the circuit. This hand-foot connection is characteristic of Vajrāsana and helps maintain an erect back during long sessions. It is the seated posture most recommended for practice after meals.
