Prakaraṇa 1 · Verse 47

सत्सङ्गः को ऽपि नाराणां यत्र मुमुक्षुता भवेत्

satsaṅgaḥ ko 'pi nārāṇāṃ yatra mumukṣutā bhavet

The company of the wise awakens the desire for liberation

Satsaṅga — the company of those who seek truth — is not a luxury; it is a condition. The confused mind reinforces itself in solitude because it only hears its own reasoning. In the presence of someone who sees clearly, confusion loses its monologue. It is not that the wise one convinces you — it is that their clarity destabilizes your certainties enough for you to examine them. One candle lights another; the first loses nothing and the second receives everything.
