Ekādaśa-prakaraṇam (Upadeśa) · Verse 12

एतज्ज्ञानं परं गुह्यं मया प्रोक्तं तवानघे । यद्विज्ञाय मनुष्याणां मुक्तिर्भवति निश्चिता ॥

etajjñānaṃ paraṃ guhyaṃ mayā proktaṃ tavānaghe | yadvijñāya manuṣyāṇāṃ muktirbhavati niścitā ||

The verse presented here, addressed to the “immaculate” – a term signifying one purified and receptive – reveals a core principle of liberation within the Yājñavalkya Yoga. The phrase “supreme secret knowledge” (anagha) denotes a profound understanding beyond ordinary sensory perception, a direct apprehension of reality. It’s not simply intellectual knowledge, but experiential insight that, when grasped, guarantees release (mukti) for the individual. The act of vidhyā – knowing – is presented as the crucial step, a turning of the mind towards this truth. This aligns with the Upaniṣadic emphasis on jnana as the primary path to liberation, where the self (ātman) is ultimately revealed as identical with Brahman. The yogi, through diligent study and practice, transcends the limitations of the dualistic perception of self and other, leading to a cessation of suffering.
