Dvādaśa-prakaraṇam (Kuṇḍalinī) · Verse 7

याज्ञवल्क्य उवाच - गार्गि योगाभ्यासयुक्तस्य पापं सर्वं विनश्यति । पुण्यं तस्य भवेत् साक्षान्मोक्षं याति न संशयः ॥

yājñavalkya uvāca - gārgi yogābhyāsayuktasya pāpaṃ sarvaṃ vinaśyati | puṇyaṃ tasya bhavet sākṣānmokṣaṃ yāti na saṃśayaḥ ||

Yājnavalkya’s pronouncement to Gārgī establishes a foundational principle of yogic practice: consistent engagement with yoga-ābhyāsa fundamentally eradicates pāpa, or accumulated negative karmic debt. This is not a passive acceptance of purification, but an active dissolution achieved through the disciplined cultivation of awareness and action aligned with the path. The resultant puṇya, or meritorious action, then manifests spontaneously, a direct consequence of this transformative process, signifying liberation – moksha – without any possibility of doubt. This echoes the Upaniṣadic emphasis on karma and its cyclical nature, where dedicated action creates a new, positive trajectory, freeing the individual from the burden of past deeds. The statement highlights the immediate and potent effect of sustained yogic discipline, offering a tangible pathway toward transcendence.
