Aṣṭama-prakaraṇam (Dhyāna) · Verse 7
सानन्दं यत्र चित्तं वै परमानन्दविग्रहम् । तत्र योगी स्थितो नित्यं ब्रह्मभूतो न संशयः ॥
sānandaṃ yatra cittaṃ vai paramānandavigraham | tatra yogī sthito nityaṃ brahmabhūto na saṃśayaḥ ||
Verse 7 of Prakaraṇa 8 elucidates the sānanda state, a profound shift in the yogi’s experience predicated on the recognition of paramananda – supreme bliss. Here, the mind is described as vigraha – the form or manifestation – of this supreme joy, implying that the bliss itself is the form of consciousness. The yogi, consistently established within this state, is not simply approaching Brahman, but becomes it, irrevocably. The emphatic phrase “without doubt” (na sanśayaḥ) underscores the absolute certainty of this realization, a direct and unmediated experience that transcends all intellectual understanding. This state, akin to the experiential core of certain haṭha yoga practices focused on kriyas and prāṇāyāma, represents a fundamental shift from intellectual contemplation to an embodied realization of the divine. It echoes the Upaniṣadic notion of ātman as identical with Brahman, offering a glimpse into the ultimate nature of reality.
