Aṣṭama-prakaraṇam (Dhyāna) · Verse 12
एवं समाधिं मया प्रोक्तं गार्गि ते योगसिद्धये । समाधिष्ठो भवेन्नित्यं मुक्तिर्भवति निश्चिता ॥
evaṃ samādhiṃ mayā proktaṃ gārgi te yogasiddhaye | samādhiṣṭho bhavennityaṃ muktirbhavati niścitā ||
This concluding verse of Prakaraṇa 8, addressing Gārgī, powerfully asserts the efficacy of samādhi as the key to achieving complete yogic realization. The phrase samādhishta – “established in samādhi” – highlights the critical importance of sustained, focused meditative practice; it is not merely a technique, but a state of being. The verse directly links this state to moksha, or liberation, stating that “liberation is certain” for one who remains fixed in samādhi. This echoes the foundational understanding within the Yoga Yājñavalkya that the dissolution of the individual ātman into the greater Brahman arises through the consistent cultivation of unwavering attention, a quality cultivated through āsana, prāṇāyāma, and the refining of yama and niyama. The verse serves as a potent encouragement, reinforcing the dedication required for a truly transformative yoga experience, suggesting that the attainment of liberation is not an abstract philosophical concept, but a demonstrable outcome of disciplined practice.
