Navama-prakaraṇam (Samādhi) · Verse 12
व्यानः सर्वशरीरे तु पञ्च वायव इत्यमी । नागः उद्गारकृत् कूर्मः संघर्षी वराहस्तथा ॥
vyānaḥ sarvaśarīre tu pañca vāyava ityāmī | nāgaḥ udgārakṛt kūrmaḥ saṃgharṣī varāhastathā ||
This verse meticulously details the specific manifestations of the vayu – the subtle winds – within the body, classifying them as integral to the entire physiological system. The description of Vyāna permeating the entire body highlights its pervasive nature, while the enumeration of the other four vayu – Nāga, Kūrma, and Varāha – reveals their distinct and localized functions. Nāga is identified with the act of belching, a forceful expulsion of air, while Kūrma is associated with the blinking of the eyes, a rhythmic movement regulated by this vayu. Varāha, linked to the act of sneezing, demonstrates a similarly potent release of air, showcasing the dynamic and sometimes forceful control that the yogī seeks to establish. Ultimately, mastery over these vayu signifies a profound understanding of the prāṇa and its intricate orchestration within the body’s subtle architecture.
