Jāgrat

Waking state. First of the three states of consciousness (avasthā-traya).

In Māṇḍūkya Upaniṣad, jāgrat corresponds to vaiśvānara — consciousness directed outward, experiencing the world through the senses. The gross body (sthūla śarīra) is its vehicle.
