Oṃkāra
concepto“The sound of Oṃ.” The primordial vibration, the pranava — the cosmic sound from which all mantras emanate. Oṃkāra is the sonic form of Brahman: it does not symbolize the absolute, it is the absolute manifested as vibration.
In yoga, contemplation of oṃkāra is both vocal practice (japa) and interior (nāda). The Māṇḍūkya Upaniṣad unfolds its three phonemes (A, U, M) as the three states of consciousness plus the fourth (turīya). See om.
